End of an era – if you call the 2009 gardening season an era


The average first freeze date in Crawford county is October 10. We still have tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, greens, and herbs in the garden. I thought I’d take a picture of it before it turns brown. We will cover some of it to stretch the season. But brown is inevitable.

The mandavilla and hibiscus are in pots and will be coming in for the winter. We’re also potting some peppers and herbs for our winter eating pleasure.

That first bed has mixed lettuces, stir fry greens, and cilantro. Next comes basil, tomatoes, peppers, more tomatoes, herbs, asparagus and strawberries. (The strawberries are still bearing fruit.)
